World Polio Day: October 24th Event in Syracuse with Mayor Ben Walsh

Join Rotary District 7150, representing 43 Rotary Clubs in CNY & the Mohawk Valley, and Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh in honoring World Polio Day. October 24th is the day that Rotarians and citizens around the world come together to learn more about the importance of eradicating this debilitating disease, the risks we are at until it’s completely gone and what it will take to accomplish eradication.
We are on the verge of completely eliminating a disease from the face of the earth, for the second time in human history. Rotary has been a leader in this effort for three decades, truly showing integrity in following through on their commitment to see this project through to completion. Partnering with other NGO’s and foundations like the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rotary has helped raised billions of dollars, immunize billions of babies and take the number of new cases annually from 350,000 to just 18 this year.
At this event, a first in Syracuse, you will:
-hear from local survivors of polio
-participate in a panel discussion with Rotarians and experts in the health field
-enjoy light refreshments
-raise the End Polio Now flag in honor of World Polio Day as Mayor Ben Walsh make an official proclamation
We hope you will join us to learn more about a disease often forgotten in America and practically unknown to several generations. It is a preventable disease still devastating families elsewhere in the world and it can be eradicated!
Wednesday, October 24, 2018 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
